Stefan Holmström
Bass-Baritone

Born in Sweden, Stefan Holmström studied at the Gothenburg College of Music, the Malmö College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. At the GSMD, his roles included Count Perruchetto / La fedeltà premiata, the title-role in Krenek’s Der Diktator and Dr Bartolo / Il barbiere di Siviglia. A finalist in the 1998 Richard Tauber Prize, he gained the Lönndahl Prize and The Ebrelius Award. Currently, he is working with Paul Farrington and during 2004 / 2005 was a Samling Foundation Scholar studying with Sir Thomas Allen and Malcolm Martineau.

Stefan Holmström’s engagements have included Escamillo / Carmen, Don Alfonso / Così fan tutte and Alidoro / La cenerentola for Garden Opera, The Vicar / Albert Herring for Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Mephistopheles / Faust for Opera South, Pritschitsch / The Merry Widow for Opera Holland Park, Count Almaviva / La mère coupable for Camberwell Pocket Opera, Masetto / Don Giovanni for London Opera Players, Le Gendarme / Les mamelles de Tirésias for Grange Park Opera, both Le Gendarme / Les mamelles de Tirésias and Ramiro / L’heure espagnole for Pimlico Opera, Alidoro / La cenerentola at the Kijani Kenya International Festival, Don Magnifico / La cenerentola for Opera Four and The Forester / Forty Hares and a Cunning Little Vixen for English Touring Opera.

His concert engagements have included the St Matthew Passion and Mozart Mass in C Minor with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra at St John’s, Smith Square, Messiah at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, Frank Martin In Terra Pax with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Worcester Cathedral, Mozart Requiem at Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool, and Verdi Requiem with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra.

Current engagements include Colline / La bohème and  further performances as Alidoro / La cenerentola for Garden Opera, Satyr / Platée for the English Bach Festival Trust at The Megaron, Athens, Marchese d’Obigny / La traviata for Opera Holland Park, Messiah for Maidstone Choral Union, Haydn Harmonie-Messe at the St Germans Festival and Te Deum for East Grinstead Choral Society, Elijah for Worthing Philharmonic Society, Mozart Mass in C Minor for Angmering Chorale and Tonbridge Philharmonic Society and Puccini Messa di Gloria in Arundel Cathedral.
