Lise
Christensen
MEZZO–SOPRANO
Born in Denmark, Lise Christensen first studied History at The University of Copenhagen and subsequently singing at The Royal Danish Academy of Music and at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Susan McCulloch. She completed her studies at The National Opera Studio in 2004, supported by The Friends of Covent Garden, a Jean Dunlop Bursary and the Sybil Tutton Charitable Trust. Lise Christensen is also a Samling Foundation Scholar.
At the National Opera Studio, Lise Christensen worked in residence with both Opera North and Welsh National Opera, singing (in excerpts) the roles of HanselHansel and Gretel,VarvaraKatya Kabanova,IdamanateIdomeneo and AngelinaLa cenerentola. The NOS Showcase featured her as GiovannaAnna Bolena,RuggieroAlcina and CharlotteWerther. Whilst at the GSMD, she sang Aristeo in Rossi’s Orfeo at St John’s Smith Square, and her operatic roles further included Lady with a HatboxPostcard from Morocco,Jenny DiverThe Beggar’s Opera,DorabellaCosì fan tutte,LucillaLa scala di seta,MaryGoing into Shadows and MartaIolanta.
Lise Christensen’s professional engagements have already included CherubinoLe nozze di Figaro (cover) for Welsh National Opera, Third LadyDie Zauberfl öte in a concert performance for The Oxford Philomusica, the title role in Carmen for Mid Wales Opera, Francesca Zambello’s production of The Little Prince for BBC Wales, DejaniraHercules (cover) at The Buxton Festival, Meg PageFalstaff for Stanley Hall Opera, DorabellaCosì fan tutte for London Opera Players, Madame LarinaEugene Onegin for Clonter Opera and AlisaLucia di Lammermoor for New Sussex Opera.
As an oratorio and concert soloist, Lise Christensen’s performances include Beethoven Choral Symphony with The Manchester Camerata in Bridgewater Hall, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle with The Philharmonia Chorus, Verdi Requiem in Truro Cathedral, Mozart Requiem in Peterborough Cathedral, a Christmas Gala with The Ten Tors Orchestra, Bach St. John Passion in The Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham and galas in the UK and Europe with Diva Opera. Her repertoire also includes Elgar The Music Makers, Handel Messiah and Dixit Dominus, Vivaldi Gloria and Karl Jenkins Mass for Peace.
Most recently, she has under studied the role of CherubinoLe nozze di Figaro for WNO and performed Third LadyDie Zauberfl öte for The Oxford Philomusica.
