Vázquez
Tenor
Spanish tenor and Samling Foundation scholar Rafael Vázquez
was born in Alicante, and graduated in Spanish and E.C Law in 1999
from C.E.U San Pablo University in Madrid and simultaneously studied
singing under D. Jose Maria Marcos Jimenez. Later on he moved back
to Alicante and made a series of concerts with soprano Jovita Gómez
Couto and bariton Liberto Benedicto.
In 2000, he commenced a Postgraduate course in Environmental Law
at the University of Nottingham and continues singing tuition under
Pamela Cook and Catherine Foster. In September 2001 Rafael gained
a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he is now
undertaking the opera course under Adrian Thompson. Once at the
Guildhall, he sang in a large variety of school performances such
the Britten Festival and Hugo Wolf Festival,both directed by Graham
Jonhson.
His engagements have included among others, an Opera Gala at The
Vilar Floral Hall, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, a series of
concerts in Italy with Maestro Emanuele Moris, an Opera Gala at
the Shakespeare institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, a sacred music
concert in benefit of the UNICEF in Pescara (Italy).
In November 2002 he sang Tamino in the Zauberflöte with Opera
by Definition in Tunbridge Wells, and in April 2003 in Rossinis
Petite Messe Solenelle in Kristiansand, Norway.
Masterclasses include Graham Clark’s GSMD Masterclass in 2001,
Maestro Emanuele Moris 2002 and 2003, and The Samling Foundation
Masterclass 2003.
Future engagements include Concert “Totó e la Censura”
in Citta St.Angelo (Pescara/Italy), Don Curzio in the next “Le
Nozze di Figaro” GSMD production and an Italian song concert
for Mayfair Concerts in London.
