Born in the Netherlands in 1972, the Dutch baritone Robbert Muuse stu died in Maastricht with Mya Besselink, where he graduated with distinction. He went to Germany to stu dy opera singing with Donald Litaker in Karlsruhe. H e also specialised in the art of Lied with Konrad Richter in Stuttgart, Hartmut Höll at the Mozarteum Salzburg and in London with Julius Drake. He attended masterclasses of Sir Thomas Allen, Barbara Bonney, Julius Drake, Robert Holl, Rudolf Jansen, Graham Johnson, Claudio Nicolai, David Wilson-Johnson and Hilde Zadek.

Since 1994 Robbert Muuse has been a duo with the Dutch pianist Micha van Weers. Together they have performed many liedrecitals with a great variety in repertoire, amongst others at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Salzburg and Paris. They won first prize at the 1998 Helge Domp Vocal Competition in Amsterdam, the Audience Prize and the Special RAI-Prize at the 2003 Int. Seghizzi Song Competition in Italy and the prestigious MeesPierson Award 2004 at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

Robbert Muuse has made several recordings for CD (e.g. label ALPHA), DVD, radio and television.

His operatic roles include Aeneas (Purcell), Pallante in Händel's Agrippina conducted by Jan-Willem de Vriend, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Allazim in Zaide (Mozart), Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Sid in Albert Herring (Britten), Le Directeur in Poulenc's ‘Les Mamelles de Tirésias’ conducted by Ed Spanjaard and many others.

As a concertsoloist he has sung many oratorios and concerts (e.g. Matthäus and Johannes-Passion, Die Schöpfung, Ein Deutsches Requiem, Händels Belshazzar and Messiah, and Carmina Burana). Invitations led to the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, St John’s Smith Square in London, with Southbank Sinfonia (conducted by Simon Over), Combattimento Consort Amsterdam (conducted by Jan-Willem de Vriend), the Nieuw Ensemble (conducted by Ed Spanjaard), Noord Nederlands Orkest, Cappella Figuralis and La Petite Bande.

As an interpretator of baroque music Robbert Muuse is a regular guest as a soloist of the French Ensemble Pierre Robert and sang at important baroque festivals, such as La Roque d'Anthéron, in Versailles at the Chapelle Royale, Saint Michel-en-Thiérache, at the Paris Cité de la Musique and the London Lufthansa Baroque Festival.
