Samling
history: Gave a recital at The Samling at Dovenest for the Samling
Foundation with Michael Pollock in December 1999
Experience: Although I have never been on a residential course
administered by the Samling foundation, they have done a remarkable
job assembling such a wealth of highly talented and motivated teachers
and administrators. The kind of help and support supplied by the
Samling Foundation is invaluable to young artists in all fields.
Past
achievements: Winner of the "Lieder Prize" in 1997
Cardiff Singer of the World competition. Other Awards include The
Queen's Commendation for Excellence from the Royal Academy of Music
1995, Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist of the Year 1999
and Seattle Opera's Artisit of the Year 2000/2001. Musical highlights
include work with Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Kurt
Masur, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Lord Menuhin, James Conlon, Leonard
Slatkin, John Adams, Thomas Ades, Sir Charles Mackerras & Donald
Runnicles. Opera in Glyndebourne, Covent Garden, ENO, WNO, Seattle,
Brussels, Berlin and Munich. Recitals with Malcolm Martineau, Graham
Johnson and Julius Drake in NewYork, Vienna, Paris, London, Salzburg,
Edinburgh an! d the Schwarzenberg Schubertiade. Recordings to date
include discs of Schumann, Schubert, Beethoven, Debussy, Vaughan
Williams, Holst, Warlock and Ireland.
Current
Activities: Learning to be a father to my baby son Max, born
on October 31st, 2002.
Forthcoming Activities: A duet recital for the Samling foundation
with my wife, Leigh Woolf as well as futher recitals in New York,
San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Frankfurt, Vienna, London, Zurich
and Lisbon. Opera including Cosi fan Tutte and Thomas Ades' "The
Tempest" at the Royal Opera House, Tarquinius "The Rape
of Lucretia" in Munich, "Therese Raquin" in San Diego
and Mozart's Figaro and Papageno in Glyndebourne. New recording
projects include discs of Brahms, Schumann, Faure, various english
songs, Ravel and Monteverdi.
