Flora McIntosh - Mezzo-Soprano

Winner of the Ricordi Prize for Opera and the Brigitte Fassbaender Award for Lieder2004, Flora McIntosh began singing in 1995 with Ann Lampard. She entered the RNCM in 1999, studying with Caroline Crawshaw and graduating with 1 st class honours. Flora has participated in masterclasses with Jane Eaglen, Janice Watson, Ryland Davies and Sheila Armstrong. In 2003 she won the Anne Ziegler Awardfor Singing as well as being a finalist in the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for Singing Richard Strauss. Flora has worked with conductors such as Mark Shanahan, Jonathan Willcocks, Edward Gardner and Simon Over and with orchestras including The Hall é , Southbank Sinfonia and Orchestre de Algarve in Portugal .

 Operatic experience includes the title role in Carmen, Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff, Papagena/3 rd Lady and Dorabella. Suzanne, Butler’s A Better Place; Judith, Duke Bluebeard’s Castle; The Drummer, The Emperor of Atlantis; Masha, The Queen of Spades; and Fanny Nelson/Emma Hamilton in Bawden’s A Sailor’s Tale (world premiere). In 2001 she made her international debut at the Batignano Festival in Italy performing Armida in Handel’s Armida Abbandonata. Flora recorded A Sailor’s Tale for NMC recordings in 2003.

Future plans include Elijah with the Southbank Sinfonia and recitals around the UK .
