John Llewelyn Evans began His musical training under the watchful eye of his father, the bass-baritone Ivor Evans. He was a chorister at Rochester Cathedral, later becoming their youngest ever Head Chorister. John studies with Rudolf Piernay at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he is a second year student on the Opera Course. He has participated in Masterclasses with Elisabeth Söderström, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau, Meribeth Dayme and Robin Bowman, among many others. Recent oratorio performances have included Elijah, Christmas Oratorio, Carmina Burana, Messiah, Monteverdi Vespers and Brahms Requiem. On the stage, John has performed the roles of Tarquinius Rape of Lucretia, Escamillo Carmen, Lothario Mignon as well as Onegin, Count, Billy Budd, Sid, Dandini and Guglielmo and many others in excerpts at GSMD and elsewhere. In November 2003, John was the winning baritone in the London Welsh “Young Welsh Singer of the Year” Competition. Future plans include Ramiro L’Heure Espagnole for GSMD in 2005, Dandini with Garden Opera and a residential masterclass and Concert for the Samling Foundation with Della Jones and Paul Farrington, also in 2005.
