Luciana Alves e Silva - Mezzo Soprano

Brazilian mezzo soprano Luciana is currently studying with Eliane Sampaio (in Brazil) and Michael Rhodes (in Germany). She finished her BMus degree in Uni-Rio, Rio de Janeiro with Eliane Sampaio in December 2000.

In September 2002, as a recipient of a Brazilian government scholarship, Capes, she entered the GSMD for Master Degree in Performance with Paula Anglin and Rudolf Piernay. After that, as a recipient of one of two  RSAMD International Trust awards she entered in the Alexander Gibson Opera  School at the RSAMD for a Master Degree in Opera, and studied with Patricia MacMahon.

In June 2001 she was invited to sing in the XIV Festival International de Sarrebourg. Luciana has given song recitals and oratorios in Brazil, France, UK and Germany. In competitions she won Second Prize and Spanish Song prize at Amália Conde Competition in Rio de Janeiro (Nov 2001), First Prize at Academia Vocalis Tirolensis in Wörgl (July 2003) and Second Prize at the RSAMD Margaret Dick Award in Glasgow (March 2004).

In opera Luciana sang the Sorceress in Dido & Aeneas by Purcell and Hermia in Britten's A Midsummer Nights Dream at RSAMD.

Luciana recorded the alto solo parts in Missa Pastoril, Matinas de Natal and Laudade Dominum by José Maurício Nunes Garcia, Responsórios para Ofício de Sexta-feira Santa by Antonio dos Santos Cunha, Brevis Mess kv 65 and Sancta Maria Mater Dei by Mozart, with Atelier Vocal et Intrumental from Sarrebourg, conducted by Jean-Franck Anselme, in Sarrebourg, France and Matinal de Sábado Santo, by Emerico Lobo de Mesquita, conducted by Júlio Moretzsohn, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Her future plans include the Second Lady in The Magic Flute by Mozart, the Alto Part in the Stabat Mater of Pergolesi and the world premiere of Cal Vima, by Ronaldo Miranda.
