Luciano Botelho - Tenor

Born in Rio de Janeiro, the tenor Luciano Botelho has a bachelor of Sacred Music from STBSB - Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1998) and a bachelor of Music and voice from UNI-Rio - University of
Rio de Janeiro (2002) under the guidance of Eliane Sampaio. In 2004/2005 he did the Masters Course at Guildhall school of Music and Drama, where he is now concluding the Opera Course studying with
Adrian Thompson.

As part of his chamber music studies he sang with the vocal group Benedictus, specialised in early music, with the soloist octet of Rio de Janeiro Opera House and with the group Calíope, recording three CDs of Brazilian Baroque Music. In addition he has a vast chamber and concert repertoire that includes Carmina Burana, Mozart's C Minor Mass and Requiem, Bach's Magnificat and Rossini's Stabat Mater.

His opera debut was in 2001 when he performed Tamino in the Amazonas Opera House and on other occasions at the same Festival he sang Don Ottavio, Ramiro and Il Conte Almaviva. In 2003 he was nominated to the Carlos Gomes Premium based on his performances of Fadinard, Nino Rotta, Le Berger, Stravinsky and The Four Servants, Offenbach being acclaimed by Brazilian critics as "one of the best talents of this country". His recent engagements include Fenton at Guildhall Theatre in London; Tybalt, Gounod and Orfeo, Monteverdi at São Paulo Opera House. Tamino, Nemorino and Nadir at Rio de Janeiro Opera House; Il principe, O Respighi in Portugal and Ramiro at Belgrade National Theatre. Future plans include Rinuccio at Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Tamino at Porto Alegre; Tebaldo, Bellini at Rio de Janeiro Opera House; La Damnation de Faust, Berlioz and Britten's Serenade in Manaus opera house and Gherardo, Puccini at São Paulo Music Hall.
