Morag
Atchison was born in New Zealand and gained a first class music
degree from the University of Auckland. She undertook postgraduate
studies at the Royal Academy of Music graduating with a DipRAM,
the Academy's 'Premier Prix'. Morag has won many prizes and scholarships
including a Countess of Munster Trust Award, the RAM's opera Prize
and a Samling Foundation Scholarship. In 2001 she won first prize
in the Madeline Finden Awards, was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier
Competition and won the New Zealand Society Prize in the Royal Over-Seas
League music competition.
Morag's
roles include Donna Elvira, Don Giovanni with Sir Cohn Davis and
John Copley (London Royal School's Opera); Annina, La Traviata (ETO);
La Ciesca, Gianni Schicchi (Aspen Music Festival, USA); Serpetta,
Die Gartnerin aus Liebe (LRSO) and Le Feu, L 'Enfant et les Sortilèges
(Limburgs Symphonie Orkest, The Netherlands).
Her oratorio and concert repertoire includes Schoenberg's Pierrot
Lunaire (London and Aspen); Vivaldi Gloria with Sir David Wilicocks
(Royal Albert Hall and in Venice); Mater Gloriosa in Mahler 's 8th
Symphony (RAH); Mozart Coronation Mass (Hull Choral Union); Mozart
C Minor Mass (King's Lynn Festival); Haydn's Creation (Wales); St
John Passion, Messiah and Carmina Burana. Morag performs regularly
in recital in venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields and St James's
Piccadilly.
Morag
has recently returned from Kenya for the Queen's Golden Jubilee
and the Seychelles International Festival of Music. She sang with
Sir David Wilicocks in performances of Mozart's Requiem and Gounod's
Messe solennelle de Sainte Cécile, with Roger Humphrey in
an Opera Gala and a recital of Beethoven's British Folk Songs and
Liebeslieder Op.52 by Brahms.
Future engagements include singing at Wells Cathedral with the City
of Bath Bach Choir and further performances of Vivaldi's Gloria
with Sir David Wilicocks in Venice and at the Royal Albert Hall.
