Malcolm Teasdale - Visual Artist

As his surname suggests Malcolm's roots and ancestral connections lie very much in the north east of England. Several generations back his forefathers were lead miners working the seams on bleak Alston Moor. Successive generations coal mined in Tynedale and close to Newcastle. Malcolm himself was born in the Elswick district of Newcastle, in 1944 He lived and worked for much of his life near to the city. For the past twenty years he has lived in the market town of Morpeth, Northumberland.

His passion for painting has always been an integral part of his life. Even as a sportsman and a teacher his interest in art has been ongoing. In more recent years he has occupied three galleries in Morpeth and has increasingly devoted more time to his painting. He holds regular 'one  man' exhibitions in such venues as the Moothall, in Hexham. He has also exhibited in Edinburgh, York and Middlesborough. Such exhibitions have included 'A Glimpse of the Great North', depicting scenes of northern life which was televised by the BBC.

Much of his work has arisen from industrial locations, land and seascapes and the history of his local area. His aim is twofold. Firstly to superimpose his own ideas upon the way in which any scene is presented so that it ceases to be photographic and becomes more fluid and atmospheric. Secondly he endeavours to bring his industrial scenes and townscapes to life by injecting movement and action into them.
