
Nikola Matisic - Tenor
Nikola Matisic was born in Stockholm, Sweden and worked for five years in the youth opera chorus at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Aged twenty one he commenced dramatic studies at Opera studio 67. With a wide vocal he concentrated at first on bass-baritone/baritone repertoire but on entering post-graduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London he began working with vocal professor Diane Forlano training as a tenor. Thereafter, Nikola entered the combined Opera School in Den Haag and Amsterdam, Netherlands and, when attaining a Masters degree, started freelancing with various opera groups as well as performing sacred repertoire and orchestral works.
Nikola is currently on the Jette Parker Young Artist programme at the Royal Opera in London where he is covering the roles of Lensky, Eugene Onegin, Jenik, The Bartered Bride and Jack, Midsummer Marriage, as well as singing Gastone in La Traviata, Giudice in Un Ballo in Maschera and Pang in Turandot.
Earlier roles include Albert Herring, Don Ottavio, Tony Tebaldo as well as title role in Demofoonte. He created the role of Ivan in the Modern Opera The Scar by Malmborg.
Over the years Nikola has been awarded several prestigious scholarships, among others; Swedish National Board of Culture, Anders Sandrews Stiftelse, Antonia Axson Johnsson (twice), Stiftelsen Anna Whitlock, Märta Christina och Magnus Vahlquists Stipendium and Vadstena-Akademins Stiftelse (twice).
