
Pumeza Matshikiza - Soprano
Pumeza Matshikiza was born in South Africa. She is from Cape Town and studied at the South African College of Music graduating ‘Cum Laude’ for the Performers Diploma in Music. She has been a constant first prize winner through the years in college. She was a member of Cape Town Opera studio and was also voted Best Performer of the year in 2003 by the Friends of Cape Town Opera. She was the first prize winner of the Shock Foundation Competition in 2003.
She sang Marenka in Bartered Bride (Smetana) for the Cape Town Opera Studio, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (Mozart) for The Benjamin Britten International Opera School, Carla in Confessions of Zeno (Volans) for The Handspring Puppet Company, which toured France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Croatia and Belgium, Frasquita in Carmen for Broom hill Opera. Rosalinda in Fledermaus (Strauss) for the B.B.I.O.S
She has performed extracts from La Traviata as Violetta, La Gioconda as Gioconda, La Boheme as Mimi, The Magic Flute as Pamina, Pagliacci as Nedda, Dido and Aeneas as Dido for the South African College of Music and The Marriage of Figaro as The Countess for the Benjamin
Britten International Opera School which she is part of through winning a scholarship. She is a Peter Moores, Countess of Munster, Pidem Scholar supported by the Derek Butler Trust Award.
She will be performing Mimi in La Boheme inMay 2006 for Cape Town Opera.
