Nuccia
Focile was born in Militello, Sicily and studied with Elio Battaglia
at the Turin Conservatory.
Her
roles have included Nannetta in Falstaff (also in Tokyo
and Paris) and Violetta in Traviata for Welsh National
Opera. For Las Scala, Milan roles include Oscar in Un Ballo
in Maschera, Giulietta in I Capuleti e I Montecchi,
Servilia in La Clemenza Di Tito, Nedda in Pagliacci,
Drusilla in L’incoronazuine di Poppea, Norina in
Don Pasquale, Ascanio in Lo Frate ‘nnammorato
and Ilia in Idomeneo. For Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires Musetta
in La Boheme; Norina in Don Pasquale for Dublin
Grand Opera; Oscar, Norina and Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte
for Philadelphia Opera; Mimi in La Boheme for Hamburg Staatsoper
and in Verone, Florence, Turin, Teatro Massimo Palermo, and Metropolitan
Opera, New York; Giulia in La Scala Di Seta for the Rossini
Opera Festival, Pesaro; Susanna in Le Nozze Di Figaro for
the Houston Grand Opera, Bari Petruzzelli, Teatro Bellini Catania;

for the Royal Opera House and Amelia in Simon Boccanegra
for Welsh National Opera.
Her
operatic recordings include Eugene Onegin (with Bychkov),
Cosi Fan Tutte, Le Nozze Di Figaro, Don Giovanni all with
Mackerras and L’assedio Di Calais with David Parry.
Other recordings include Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini)
with Marriner, Frauenliebe und Leben (Schumann), Tosti
songs and a solo album of Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini songs.
Nuccia
Focile has an extensive concert career and has sung regularly at
the Edinburgh Festival in recital and often in concerts with Sir
Charles Mackerras. Recent engagements have included Mimi in Florence,
Susanna (Figaro) at Royal Opera House and the title role
in Manon Lescaut and Tatyana Eugene Onegin in Nancy and
Donna Elvira Don Giovanni for WNO.
2000
engagements included Despina Cosi Fan Tutte at the Opera
de Bastille in Paris with Sir Charles Mackerras, Amelia Simon
Boccanegra for the New Zealand International Festival for the
Arts, Susanna Marriage of Figaro with the Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-Juku
Opera Project (previously known as the Saito Kinen Festival conducted
by Ozawa, Manon Lescaut with La Fenice in Copenhagen and
Antonia Les Contes D’Hoffmann at the Royal Oera House.
She recently sang Susanna in Le Nozze Di Figaro for Welsh
National Opera.
